An English Lecturer at the historic Islamia College University (ICU) Peshawar was shot dead by a security guard over a petty issue. The Peshawar police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a security guard who shot dead historic ICU professor Bashir Ahmed.
English lecturer Bashir Muhammad, is a Mardan resident currently residing at Islamia Collegiate School. He had a verbal dispute with the school watchman a day ago but later the matter was sorted out. On Sunday both of them had another scuffle.

Professor Bashir took out his pistol during the scuffle. The guard Sher Muhammad opened fire at him with his AK-47. “He was left seriously injured and rushed to the nearby KTH where he succumbed to his injuries,” said a police official. Adding that the accused managed to escape after committing the crime. Police opened an investigation into the case after registering an FIR on the complaint of the deceased’s brother.
The official of Campus police station said that the incident took place right at the gate of Islamia College University Peshawar. He said that the accused managed to escape and a case was filed against him. To avoid further unrest, the administration closed the university on the pretext of the spring vacations. However, which usually starts in the last week of February.
Both the teacher and security guard had also exchanged hot words a month ago over an unknown issue. After an exchange of hot words, the teachers approached the director of security of the university. Asking him to transfer the security guard to avoid any untoward incident in the future.
The administration transferred the security guard from the university and deployed him at Islamia Collegiate School, a constituent institution of ICU. However, the issue was resolved amicably when some senior professors intervened.
The accused, Sher Muhammad, was arrested from the Karak district and sent to Peshawar. Moreover, a team of Peshawar police was dispatched to arrest the accused.
