The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is returning with a bang, and Indians are already creating a buzz. The prestigious film fest will be held from May 16 to May 27 in France. Cannes 2023 will be a whole lot of blingy affair in the street of France.
The Country of Honor this year is Spain. Last year, it was India.
The red carpet will roll out next week with the premiere of Johnny Depp’s comeback film ‘Jeanne du Barry’. In which he is essaying the role of King Louis XV of France.
Michael Douglas will be honoured with the Palm d’or award. The red carpet will also be graced by Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman and Harrison Ford, among other Hollywood personalities.
Since its inception in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival has always been in the news for one reason or another. Whether it’s Arnold ‘Terminator’ Schwarzenegger making an appearance wearing only boxers in 1977, to the ‘Notebook Star’ Ryan Gosling locking lips with Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn in 2011. Indians at Cannes
This year, Indian cinephiles have a lot to look forward to. Here’s why:
Not one, but three Indian films will be screened at the festival. These include Anurag Kashyap’s police noir flick ‘Kennedy’, the Rahul Roy starrer ‘Agra’, and Manipuri director Aribam Syam Sharma’s movie ‘Ishanou’. Mrunal Thakur, an esteemed actress in the world of showbiz, has established herself with her remarkable talent and captivating persona. Adding another milestone to her career, she is now poised to make her much-awaited debut at the prestigious Cannes 2023 event this year.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival will be attended by a bevy of Indian celebrities who will debuts. Including Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma (who will represent India), Manushi Chillar, the 2017 Miss World, singer Kumar Sanu’s daughter Shannon K and social media influencers Dolly Singh and Esha Gupta. Sara Ali Khan is also all set to debut at Cannes after her phenomenal performance in Movies and series.
Other names include Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Mallika Sherawat, and TV actress Hina Khan. These are the regular attendees of Cannes every year.
Bollywood personalities like Rai Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Sharmila Tagore, and Padukone, among others, have earlier been part of the jury for the French festival, but this year the panel didn’t have any Indians.
