We all remember Dr. Waleed Malik who bagged 29 gold medals after passing out. In a recent conversation on Instagram, he shared the sad experience of his life. He said despite applying to 20-plus hospitals, he is failed t get a job yet.
Hafiz Muhammad Waleed Malik graduated from Ameeruddin Medical College Lahore and set a new record by winning 29 gold medals last December. In a conversation on his Instagram account, Dr Waleed Malik said he has still not secured a job at any hospital, several months after he graduated from medical college.
Dr Waleed Malik said he has applied in more than twenty hospitals but has not received any job offer. He said the appointments are being made on ‘sifarish’ (favouritism) rather than on merit.
“Situation of jobs is 99% on sifarish and 1% on merit. I might be wrong but that’s what I’ve observed. Only the merit should prevails, but this system is beyond repair,” he added.
People are divided into two parts on his statement. One is blaming system and calling the authorities out to help poor doctor. The other side is saying that Waleed has just completed his house job. He posted a picture on Instagram saying house job completed and date was May 31st. So the opinion is that he should wait a bit before landing on to some verdict.
Maybe the latter advice is justifiable but the allegations that Waleed point out are not wrong as well. Every year our major skilled people went abroad to get better future and better pay. Recent Greece incident is the biggest example of that as well.
We have to change the system entirely or our best minds and skills wont serve us in any walk of life. Pakistan produces the best doctors, engineers, lawyers and bankers in the world. But due to lack of opportunities we lost them to better countries. If we want to flourish we have to create opportunities to retain them and get the best out of them.
