Novak Djokovic has been fined $8,000 for smashing his racket against the net post in Sunday’s Wimbledon men’s singles final. The 36-year-old reacted angrily after he failed to break Alcaraz and lost his own service game during the fifth set of the match.

The incident happened after the Serbian’s opponent Carlos Alcaraz broke his serve in the third game of the fifth set on Centre Court. As he stormed back to his seat, the Serbian threw his racket against the wooden post.
The tennis legend was given a warning by umpire Fergus Murphy for a conduct violation. And the crowd packed in to watch the final loudly booed the Serbian for his temper tantrum, as Alcaraz pulled ahead in the deciding set.
“It was a frustration in the moment,” Djokovic said later. “Just a tough, tough couple of points. He played amazing to break my serve, which was enough to win the fifth.”
The Serbian’s $8,000 fine was the largest individual fine handed out during the tournament. The defeat prevented Djokovic from tying Roger Federer with an eighth Wimbledon title. While it also ended his chances of winning the calendar Grand Slam this year.

Djokovic, who had not lost on Wimbledon’s centre court for 10 years before Sunday’s final. He was beaten 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 by Alcaraz in a match that lasted four hours and 42 minutes.
Alcaraz’ victory at Wimbledon is the second Grand Slam success of the Spaniard’s career, following his U.S. Open triumph last year.
