Eliyahu is a member of the far-right Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) party. Moreover, he made this controversial statement as the death toll in Gaza, including a significant number of children, continues to rise.
Eliyahu also compared Palestinians to Nazis and endorsed collective punishment, asserting that there are no non-combatants in Gaza. He further stated that Gaza, in his opinion, has no right to exist. He went on to say that those displaying Palestinian or Hamas flags “shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not supported calls to halt the bombing of Gaza. He dismissed Eliyahu’s comments about a nuclear strike as “divorced from reality” and suspended him from cabinet meetings.
