BTS won the Worldwide Icon of the Year award at the 2023 MAMA Award. This marks their sixth consecutive win in this category, solidifying their status as global icons. This victory comes just weeks before four of the members – RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook – are scheduled to begin their mandatory military service.
The popular boy band, BTS, clinched their sixth Worldwide Icon of the Year accolade at the 2023 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) on the opening day of the two-day ceremony held at Tokyo Dome.
The Worldwide Icon of the Year is considered one of the most prestigious awards at MAMA. The remaining three awards, namely Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year, are set to be announced on the second day of the event.
Due to their military service commitments, BTS members were unable to attend this year’s MAMA. Jungkook, a member of BTS, expressed gratitude in a video message. However, saying, “Our ARMY who always sends us unwavering love, thank you very, very much.”
The band’s official fan club, known as ARMY. They played a significant role in securing the Worldwide Fans’ Choice award. The award was presented to ten artists based on fan votes. NCT Dream’s Renjun mentioned, “This is our third time in a row,” expressing his joy after winning the award.
Other notable winners included ZeroBaseOne and Riize, who received the Favorite New Artist award, and Japanese musician Yoshiki, who won the Favorite International Artist title. Additionally, boy band TVXQ was honored with the Inspiring Achievement award.
Future Plannings
The second day of the event will start at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. It will be hosted by actor Park Bo-gum and will feature more exciting performances. The award ceremony will be broadcast on Mnet and streamed globally on YouTube channels. Additionally, It includes Mnet K-POP, Mnet TV, KCON official, and M2.
