King Charles III of Britain delivered a heartfelt Christmas message from Buckingham Palace. He emphasized the importance of compassion in the face of global conflicts. Filmed in the Centre Room overlooking the Queen Victoria Memorial, the King reflected on the Christian principle of treating others as you would like to be treated.
Against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. King Charles stated, “At a time of increasingly tragic conflict around the world. I pray that we can also do all in our power to protect each other. The words of Jesus seem more than ever relevant: ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you.'”
The 75-year-old monarch, known for his environmental advocacy, expressed optimism about the growing awareness of the need to protect the Earth. He highlighted the imaginative ways people have cared for one another. He also praised the “selfless army” of volunteers as the “essential backbone of our society.”
The King acknowledged representatives of communities present at the coronation congregation in May. He emphasized the call for all to serve one another. The broadcast included footage of the coronation service, the royal family at various engagements, and King Charles and Queen Camilla launching the Coronation Food Project.
In a nod to other faiths, the King recognized the celebrations of various religions. He emphasizes the shared value of coming together across generations. He concluded by thanking those who serve one another and care for our common home.
Earlier on Christmas Day, the royal family, led by King Charles, attended the annual service at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. The Prince and Princess of Wales also shared a new photograph of their children, Princess Charlotte, and Princes George and Louis, exuding joy and casual charm.
Charles’s younger son Prince Harry and his American wife Meghan, who acrimoniously quit royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California, were not present.
