A massive earthquake struck parts of Pakistan today. According to reports, the magnitude 6.0 quake originated in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Moreover, it was felt in several Pakistani cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar.
Today, several areas in Pakistan, including parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The country experienced a strong earthquake measuring magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale. The quake was felt in various locations such as Swat, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Islamabad, Lahore, Swabi, Kohat, Abbottabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Batgram, Khyber, Landi Kotal, Barra, Chitral, and more.
The seismological center reported that the earthquake had a depth of 213 kilometers. With the epicenter located in the Hindukush region. However, the intense tremors led people to come out of their homes in fear, reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba.
This recent earthquake follows a November incident where a 3.3 magnitude earthquake shook Gilgit and its neighboring areas. Additionally, fortunately resulting in no casualties or property damage.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) in Islamabad provided information. It stating that today’s earthquake had a depth of 213 kilometers, and the epicenter was located in the Hindukush region, 84 kilometers in the North West.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and citizens are urged to stay alert, following any safety guidelines provided by local officials.

Chief meteorologist at PMD, Sardar Sarfaraz, warned of possible aftershocks. Aftershock is a common occurrence after significant earthquakes, citing a recent example in Japan.
Bilal Ahmad Faizi, spokesperson for KP Rescue 1122, assured that their control room had not received any distress calls or reports of casualties or property damage so far.
This seismic event follows a 4.6 magnitude earthquake in Quetta and its surroundings last week. It prompting residents to evacuate their homes. The earthquake’s epicenter was traced back to the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, according to PMD.
