Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has made a surprising return from international retirement after positive discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The left-arm pacer has a proven track record in the shortest format, having played in 50 T20 Internationals for Pakistan.
In a surprising turn of events, Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has announced his comeback from retirement, expressing his readiness to play for Pakistan in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup after engaging in “positive discussions” with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The Twenty20 World Cup will be held in the United States and the West Indies in June.
Amir, who had bid farewell to international cricket in 2020 due to conflicts with PCB management at the time, has now made himself available for selection once again.
Through a post on X, previously known as Twitter, Amir reaffirmed his desire to wear the Pakistani jersey again, emphasizing that his loyalty to his country surpasses personal decisions.
“I still dream to play for Pakistan,” Amir shared on X. “Life sometimes prompts us to rethink our choices. Following constructive talks with the PCB, where they conveyed their need for me and after consulting with my family and supporters, I announce my availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup.”
Amir aims to prioritize his country over personal choices. He said, “Wearing the green jersey and serving my country has always been my greatest aspiration.”
Amir’s Glorious Career
Amir’s return to cricket gained attention after his impressive performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Moreover, fans are excited about the possibility of seeing him play in the T20 World Cup.
Amir has a rich history in international cricket, having played in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is. He last played for Pakistan in 2020. He was part of the winning teams in the ICC T20 World Cup 2009 and ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
His announcement came a day after all-rounder Imad Wasim reversed his own decision to retire four months ago and made himself available to play in this year’s World Cup.
The PCB is yet to officially comment on Amir’s availability, but his statement suggests he will be attending the upcoming training camp to vie for a spot in the World Cup squad.
