Veteran TV actor Adnan Siddiqui has landed in hot waters due to a comment he made on a show, a statement perceived as misogynistic. As a guest on Nida Yasir’s show ‘Shan e Suhoor’, Adnan made a strange comment that made the host uncomfortable. Nida distanced herself from Adnan’s comment, but he stood by his words. “Women are like bees, the more you chase them, the further they’ll fly away, but when you sit calmly, they will come to you on their own.” He continued, “When I was trying to catch a bee, it wasn’t coming to my hand, but when I sat down calmly, it came and sat on me.”
Notably, Siddiqui used the word ‘makhi’ which could mean a house fly or a honey bee.
Backlash
Siddiqui’s remarks sparked outrage on social media, with many users criticizing the continued objectification of women.
They highlighted that using offensive tactics such as comparing women to objects like “honey” or “flies” in the 21st century justifies outdated arguments
“It’s not the 90s anymore. We should be careful with such nonsensical analogies. Even if he means well, this is considered disrespectful now,” a social media user wrote.
An Instagram user noted, “Even the most educated men have proven time and time again that they don’t really respect women as human beings, equals to door ki baat hai [let alone as equals]. They all lie when they say they respect women.”
Such incidents force the veteran actor to post a public apology on his Instagram handle. As insensitive as his comment was, he must also know that people, especially the young generation, consider him a role model. His words and actions can cause severe damage to the growing mind that will eventually deteriorate the nation’s culture. We all hope this one incident will warn him and other actors to make their statements in the future.
