On Saturday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to appoint wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan as the vice-captain.
PCB makes the new decision to choosing batter Mohammad Rizwan to be the vice-captain of Pakistan’s cricket team. He is a renowned wicketkeeper and a skilled batter.
Earlier, 31-year-old Rizwan was appointed as the vice-captain of Pakistan’s T20 team. Recently, Babar Azam was appointed again as captain of Pakistan’s one-day cricket team. This happened just before the T20I series against New Zealand. These matches will take place in Pakistan.
The captain, coaches, and selection committee decided together about this selection. Also, they all agreed that Mohammad Rizwan should be the vice-captain. This means he will help the captain lead the team.
Rizwan will continue serving as the vice-captain beyond the ongoing series against New Zealand. Right now, Pakistan and New Zealand are playing against each other. So, the next match is scheduled to take place at Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi.

This decision came after the poor performance of Pakistan in the 2023 ICC World Cup. After the tournament, Babar Azam stopped being the captain for all the formats. Shaheen Afridi became the captain for the short games, and Shah Masood became the captain for Test matches. But they haven’t chosen a captain for One Day International (ODI) yet.
Shaheen Afridi was chosen captain for the short games, but Pakistan lost a lot of matches under his leadership. That’s why they decided to choose someone else. The name Mohammad Rizwan came up because Shahid Afridi, a former captain, suggested him for the role instead of Shaheen Afridi.
This decision shows that the PCB is trying new strategies to make the team better. Moreover, Rizwan is a highly skilled and hard-working player. Now, he will work with the captain and coaches to lead the team well.
