Emerging Pakistani javelin thrower Yasir Ali has won a silver medal at the 2nd Asian Throwing Championship in South Korea. Yasir impressed everyone with a throw of 78.10 meters, securing second place in a tough competition.
Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Tharanga clinched the gold medal with a remarkable throw of 85.45 meters. The event saw participation from 19 athletes across Asia.
The Pakistan Athletes Federation congratulated Yasir on his achievement. He expressed his gratitude in a Facebook post, thanking Allah Almighty, his family, coach Fiaz Bukhari, and his supporters. “Alhamdulillah, silver medal in 2nd Asian Throwing Championship Mokpo Korea 2024 with my seasonal best 78.10m in this tough headwind,” he wrote.
“Talented Pakistani athlete Muhammad Yasir has secured a silver medal in the 2nd Asian Throwing Championship held in Korea,” the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said.
The Pakistan Athletics Federation (PAF) congratulated Yasir and his coach, Syed Fayaz Hussain Bukhari, for their outstanding achievement.
“PAF President Brig (R) Wajahat Hussain and Secretary General Col (R) Shahjahan Mir praised the duo’s dedication and hard work,” APP said.
Yasir is the second Pakistani javelin thrower to achieve international recognition, following Arshad Nadeem. Nadeem made history on August 28, 2023, by winning Pakistan’s first-ever medal at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary, with an 87.82-meter throw.
This silver medal is a testament to Yasir’s talent and the progress Pakistan is making in athletics. Yasir will return to Pakistan on Tuesday, bringing pride to his country with his impressive performance on the international stage.
The star javelin thrower won the silver medal in the 2023 championship. Over this achievement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a cash prize of Rs2.5 million for him on March 19.
