Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram believes that Shaheen Shah Afridi, the talented left-arm fast bowler, will be given the captaincy of the national team once more.
In an interview with an international sports media outlet, Akram discussed the ongoing captaincy issues within the Pakistan men’s cricket team. He criticized the frequent changes in leadership, saying that such instability prevents consistent performances. “Babar Azam was removed and Shaheen Shah Afridi was brought in. He then lost one series and a new chairman changed the captain again,” Akram explained.
“This is not acceptable. People laugh at us in world cricket. They don’t understand it. If you make Afridi the captain, you should give him at least a year,” he added.
Akram also mentioned that staying away from the Pakistan cricket setup has been beneficial for him. “They don’t ask us for anything, but it’s good we’re away from Pakistan cricket. It’s a blessing in disguise because it’s just criticism and politics,” he remarked.
Talking about Shaheen Afridi, Akram expressed his admiration for the young bowler’s skills. “He’s a wicket-taking bowler. He goes for wickets. He attacks with the new ball in the T20 format. Everyone knows that he’ll pitch it up, but he still gets them out, and that’s what I love about him,” Akram said.
Wasim Akram highlighted Afridi’s aggressive nature and young age, noting that he is only 23 or 24 years old. He believes Afridi has a bright future and will become Pakistan captain again. “He’s an aggressive cricketer with a bright future. He’ll become Pakistan captain again but should focus on his game until he gets it,” Akram concluded.
