Pakistani actor Sadia Faisal recently stirred up controversy with her comments on divorce rates in Pakistan. During her appearance on the FHM podcast, Sadia claimed that increasing independence and career orientation of women are major factors behind rising number of divorces.
Sadia explained her perspective by saying, “I think women have become more intolerant. They are more career-oriented now.” She suggested that women’s financial independence leads to a decrease in tolerance and compromise within marriages, which she believes is crucial for a successful relationship.
The actor-model elaborated, “You develop certain expectations when you’re independent and earning. You find a sense of security when you become self-sufficient, which is a good thing, but it can get to your head. When women earn more than men, their expectations increase. Thank God I have not changed like this.” Sadia’s comments emphasized the importance of balance and willingness to compromise in marriages.

Her views have sparked a broader conversation about the balance between traditional values and modern Pakistani society. Many people have taken to social media to debate whether Sadia’s comments are reflective of a broader societal issue. Others argue that her remarks unfairly blame women for challenges in contemporary marriages.
This is not the first time Sadia Faisal has been at the center of controversy. Earlier, her mother, veteran actor Saba Faisal, made headlines with her remarks on the importance of having sons. Saba recounted a story about her sister, who felt a deep sense of security from having sons, even when they were not physically present.
Saba’s comments were met with criticism, particularly from fellow actor Hira Khan, who called them audacious and foolish on her Instagram Story. In response, Sadia defended her mother and called for respect towards senior artists in the industry. “Everyone has a right to speak whatever he/she wants! And I’m stunned by your words! Have some respect for senior artists in your own industry. Thank you,” Sadia wrote.
