Pakistan Outshine India to Reach Asian 15-Red Snooker Championship Semi-Finals

ISLAMABAD: In a thrilling match on Thursday, Pakistan triumphed over India in the quarterfinals of the ACBS Asian 15-Red Men’s Team Snooker Championship 2024, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Pakistani team, consisting of Asjad Iqbal and Awais Munair, defeated the Indian duo of Sarav Kothari and Hussain Khan with a score of 3-0, securing their place in the semifinals.

Pakistan displayed exceptional skill with winning scores of 63-35, 75-22, and 70-06. Their next challenge is against Hong Kong in the semifinals, set to take place tonight. This victory assures Pakistan of at least one medal in the championship.

The Pakistani team has shown remarkable performance throughout the competition. On the first day, they won two matches in their group, showcasing their dominance. They began their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Saudi Arabia (2), with frame scores of 89-0 (76), 64-23, and 81-01. Following this, they continued their winning streak by defeating Myanmar 3-0, securing their spot in the quarterfinals with frame scores of 87-39, 72-45, and 71-25.

The championship features 18 teams divided into six groups. The top four teams from the group stages directly qualify for the quarterfinals. The remaining eight teams compete in pre-quarterfinals, with the winners joining the top four in the quarterfinals.

Earlier this week, Awais Munair added another feather to his cap by winning the Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship in Riyadh. He defeated Hong Kong’s Nansen Wan with a 6-3 score. The match saw intense competition, tied at 2-2 initially. Munair then won three consecutive sets, taking a 5-2 lead. Although Nansen made a comeback in the eighth frame, Munair’s excellent control and potting in the ninth frame sealed his victory. The final scores were 0-65, 35-26, 27-36, 38-20, 0-65, 13-46, 8-60, 34-0, 27-40.
