Pakistan Qualifies for T20 World Cup 2026, Confirms ICC

With the recent conclusion of the T20 World Cup, the ICC has finalized the 12 teams for the next edition of the mega event, which will take place in 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. The upcoming ICC tournament will feature 20 teams, divided into four groups of five sides each.

India and Sri Lanka automatically secured the first two spots as hosts. The Super Eight qualifiers at the 2024 World Cup and the T20I team rankings determined the next 10 spots. Through this process, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, and the West Indies secured their places in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The United States also secured a spot in the tournament.

Pakistan’s national cricket team secured a place in the next edition based on their T20I ranking (7th). The team is led by Babar Azam. They will join New Zealand (6th) and Ireland (11th) in the tournament.

The final eight teams for the 2026 World Cup will be confirmed through regional qualifiers. There are two qualification spots each for Africa, Asia, and Europe, and one spot each for the Americas and East-Asia Pacific regions.

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, India emerged victorious. They secured the trophy after a thrilling match against South Africa, winning by seven runs. With this victory, Rohit Sharma’s team joined England and the West Indies as the only teams to have won the World Cup twice. India’s first win came in 2007 when they defeated Pakistan in the final.
