Pakistani Students Win Medals at Mathematics Olympiad

Our talented young minds have brought home medals from the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) held in Bath, United Kingdom. This is a fantastic achievement for Pakistan and a testament to the potential of our youth. Moreover, their hard work and dedication have paid off, and they have made the entire nation proud.

Pakistani students have made the country proud by winning medals at the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) held in Bath, United Kingdom.

Medal Winners:

  • Silver Medal: Raazi Hassan Mansoor from Karachi.
  • Bronze Medal: Muhammad Ahmad Bhatti from Karachi.
  • Honorable Mention: Muhammad Mahad Arif from Lahore.

In addition, these brilliant students showcased their outstanding mathematical abilities on an international stage.

Training and Support: The success of the Pakistani team is backed by the STEM Careers Program. STEM is a joint effort of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science (PIEAS). Moreover, the team received rigorous training at COMSATS University, Lahore Campus, under the expert guidance of Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad and Dr. Hani Shakir.

National Selection Process

PIEAS, under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), organizes the National Science Talent Contest (NSTC) annually in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Top students from these contests are selected and trained for international competitions through the STEM Careers Program.

The achievement of these students not only highlights their hard work but also reflects the potential of Pakistani youth in the field of mathematics. Additionally, this win follows closely on the heels of another success where Pakistani students earned bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Overall Results

The IMO 2024 saw participation from 108 countries, with a total of 609 students, including 528 males and 81 females. Meanwhile, the American, Chinese, and South Korean teams emerged as the top winners, with India ranking fourth with a total score of 167.

India’s Aditya Mangodi achieved the best individual performance for his team, ranking fifth overall. Moreover, the Indian team secured four gold medals and one silver.
