New Bill in the US Senate Affects India and Pakistan

A new controversial Bill is proposed in the US Senate that can bring chaos in India and Pakistan. The prominent suggestion is to halt security assistance to Pakistan. Moreover, the senator also suggested treating India as a major “US Allies”.

US Senator Marco Rubio introduced a new bill in the US Senate. This bill has significant implications for India and Pakistan. The US-India Defence Cooperation Act requires a report on Pakistan’s “use of offensive force, including through terrorism and proxy groups against India”.

The bill proposes treating India similarly to US allies like Japan, Israel, South Korea, and NATO members regarding technology transfers. It also aims to support India against threats to its territory. Additionally, the bill suggests denying security assistance to Pakistan if it is found to have sponsored terrorism against India.

Senator Rubio emphasized that Communist China is expanding aggressively in the Indo-Pacific region. He also suggests that the US needs to support its regional partners, including India, to counter these threats.

A divided Congress will likely prevent the bill from progressing much this year, but lawmakers might reintroduce it next year. The bill highlights the importance of the US-India partnership in countering Chinese influence and enhancing diplomatic, economic, and military relations with India.

India’s Status Is Strengthening

He also suggests providing a limited exemption for India from Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) sanctions. It is also notable that CAATSA — a tough US law — authorizes the US administration to impose sanctions on countries that purchase major defense hardware from Russia.

If passed, the bill would allow India exemptions from certain sanctions for purchasing Russian equipment and expedite the sale of defense articles to India. It would also increase military cooperation and training with India and require reports to Congress on Pakistan’s use of force or terrorism against India.

This is the first time a bill focusing on elevating India to the same status as US treaty allies and imposing sanctions on Pakistan for terrorism has been introduced in the US Congress.

is it just a new beginning of something disastrous or just a mere suggestion…… let’s wait and watch!
