The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced a significant 33% increase in the entrance test fees for MBBS and BDS programs. The fee for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) has been raised from Rs6,000 to Rs8,000.
This year, over 200,000 candidates from across the country are expected to take the MDCAT. With the increased fees, PMDC is projected to collect more than Rs1.6 billion from registrations. Additionally, the registration fee for international students taking the MDCAT will be Rs40,000.
MDCAT Registration Opens, Test Set for September 22
The registration process for the MDCAT begins today, and the test is scheduled for September 22. The exam will be conducted at various locations throughout Pakistan, as well as in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
The fee hike has led to mixed reactions from students and parents. Many are concerned about the financial strain it places on aspiring medical and dental students. Despite these concerns, PMDC officials maintain that the fee adjustment is necessary. They argue that the increase is required to cover the rising costs of administering the test and to ensure its quality and integrity.
PMDC assures that the fee hike will support the logistical and administrative aspects of the test. This includes maintaining high standards and preventing any irregularities during the examination process.
For those planning to take the MDCAT, early registration is encouraged to avoid any last-minute issues. The PMDC has also advised students to regularly check their official website for updates and detailed information about the test.
