Pakistani Singer Haniya Aslam Passes Away at 39

Pakistan’s music industry has lost one of its beloved and talented musicians Haniya Aslam to a cardiac arrest on Sunday, August 11.  Her cousin and musical partner  Zeb Bangash confirmed this unfortunate news via an Instagram post. The Pakistani music industry has lost a shining star, and the nation, a cherished voice.

Haniya Aslam, a beloved Pakistani singer known for her work with the music band ‘Zeb and Haniya,‘ has sadly passed away at the age of 39. She died on August 11, 2024, due to a heart attack, as confirmed by her cousin and former bandmate, Zeb Bangash, on social media.

Haniya rose to fame with Zeb Bangash through their band ‘Zeb and Haniya,’ which became well-known after their song “Paimana” on Coke Studio in 2008. The duo’s unique sound and heartfelt performances made a lasting impact on Pakistan’s music scene.

In 2014, Haniya moved to Canada to continue her education and later began her solo music career in 2016. She also worked as a music composer for films, contributing to the growth of Pakistani music both locally and internationally.

The news of Haniya’s passing has deeply affected the Pakistani music industry and her fans. Many artists and fans have shared their condolences and memories of her on social media, expressing their sorrow and support for her family during this difficult time.

Haniya, who rose to fame with her band titled Zeb and Haniya through Coke Studio, was born and raised in Lahore but would often visit her extended family in Kohat, a small town located in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

As far as her education is concerned, the late singer went to study at Smiths while Zeb attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts in the US.  During their time together, the ladies would often get together and explore music. 

For the unversed, Haniya Aslam’s funeral prayers will be held in Islamabad on Monday, August 12 which will see the attendance of renowned singers and celebrities. The void left by Haniya Aslam’s departure will be deeply felt. The Pakistani music industry has lost a shining star, and the nation, a cherished voice.
