Deadly Monsoon Claims 245 Lives Nationwide; Punjab Suffers the Most

The recent monsoon rains and floods have brought devastation across the country, resulting in the tragic loss of 245 lives from July 1st to August 27th, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The heavy rains and flash floods have caused widespread destruction, affecting many regions.

Punjab has been the hardest hit, with 92 reported fatalities, making it the most affected province. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed closely with 74 deaths. Sindh also suffered significant losses, with 47 people losing their lives. Balochistan reported 22 fatalities, while 6 people in Kashmir and 4 in Gilgit-Baltistan perished due to the severe weather conditions.

Among the deceased, 121 were children and 48 were women, highlighting the widespread impact on vulnerable groups.Additionally, the disaster injured 446 individuals, including 158 men, 107 women, and 181 children, further emphasizing the human toll.

The NDMA’s report also shed light on the extensive damage to property and infrastructure.The floods completely destroyed a total of 1,002 houses and partially damaged 3,475 houses. The floods also damaged 8 schools and 35 bridges, affecting public infrastructure as well. The disaster also took a heavy toll on livestock, with 609 cattle reported dead, further worsening the economic situation in the affected communities.

The NDMA continues to assess the full extent of the damage and is working closely with provincial authorities to provide assistance to those affected by the floods. Relief efforts are underway, but the scale of the disaster has overwhelmed many communities, leaving them in urgent need of support.
