Lucas Bravo, the charismatic chef Gabriel from the hit Netflix series “Emily in Paris,” has revealed a surprising detail about his casting journey. He has revealed that the show’s creator, Darren Star, had to “fight” with the studio to cast him in the role. Meanwhile, Part 2 of season 4 is currently running on Netflix.
Lucas Bravo, the actor who plays the charming French chef Gabriel in Emily in Paris. He recently opened up about how he nearly lost the role that made him famous. In an interview with People Magazine, Bravo revealed that the studio initially rejected him for the part. However, the show’s creator, Darren Star, fought hard to keep him in the cast.
After being passed over by the studio, Bravo felt heartbroken. To clear his head, he went on a solo trip to the mountains on a Mediterranean island. There he hoped to disconnect from everything. “I wanted to just talk to the birds and forget about it all,” Bravo said. However, things took an unexpected turn when a hiker borrowed his phone and later returned to tell him that it had been buzzing with messages.
“He told me, ‘Your phone was vibrating left and right when I got service, so you should check it out.’ And I was like, ‘No, no, no. I’m here to forget this Emily Paris thing.'” Bravo shared

Reluctantly, Bravo checked his phone the next morning and found 40 messages and 30 missed calls from the casting director asking, “Where are you?” He rushed back to Paris. He was asked to audition again for the role. Bravo recalled how uncomfortable the audition felt. In addition, he even joked that he ended up talking about goat cheese for 10 minutes, convinced he had ruined his chances.
To his surprise, Bravo was called the next day and told filming would start in two days. Looking back, Bravo credits Darren Star’s determination in making sure he got the part. Despite the initial studio resistance, Star believed Bravo was the perfect fit, and Bravo’s portrayal of Gabriel has since become one of the show’s most beloved characters. Moreover, his character’s chemistry with Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, has been a major highlight of the show.
