Pakistani documentary film Songs of the Sufi (SOTS) has won the Best Documentary — Audience Choice Award at the 15th Chicago South Asian Film Festival. This captivating film explores the rich tradition of classical qawwali. The short film also highlights the art and heritage of the Qawwal Bachay Gharana. In addition, it also shows the in-depth perspectives of music scholars, devotees, and enthusiasts.
The film stands out for its unique blend of Sufi-inspired art, including Mughal miniature paintings, interviews, and live performances. Moreover, the movie effortlessly creates a visually stunning and emotionally moving experience. Directed by Sharukh Waheed and produced by Kamran Anwar, Songs of the Sufi delves into the universal message of love and unity that is central to Sufi music.
