Rawalpindi is experiencing tight security today as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party prepares for a protest at Liaquat Bagh. After PTI announced the rally, police sealed off the venue to prevent large gatherings. They suspended Metro bus service in twin cities, and blocked Islamabad Expressway, causing traffic chaos.
Police forces are stationed at all entry points to Rawalpindi, and barricades restrict movement. District administration requested four companies of Rangers to assist with security. As a result, major highways and routes connecting Rawalpindi and Islamabad to Faizabad closed, leading to significant inconvenience for residents. Expressway from Faizabad Bridge is now inaccessible, and traffic from Zero Point to Khanna Bridge faces severe delays.
Authorities redirected vehicles heading to T Chowk from Faizabad to Rawal Dam, and containers blocked roads leading to Murree Road. PTI’s Information Secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, stated that they would proceed with their plans at Liaquat Bagh, even without permission. PTI instructed supporters to gather at venue by 2 PM today.

Ali Amin Lead the Protest Alongside PTI Leaders
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, plans to lead the protest alongside PTI leaders arriving in caravans. In light of anticipated gathering, mobile services will suspend across Rawalpindi, and Motorways M1 and M2 will close. Key highways from Chakri, Bahtar, Taxila, and AWT will face similar closures.
To maintain order, Punjab government enforced Section 144 in Rawalpindi for two days, banning all political gatherings and protests. This ban applies to Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal districts as well, aiming to ensure safety and protect public property. Authorities will deploy six companies of Rangers to deter any potential violence.
To further ensure public safety, local law enforcement will closely monitor the situation throughout the protest. They will also respond swiftly to any disturbances to maintain peace. Citizens are urged to stay away from protest areas to avoid any risks to their safety.
