Kriti Sanon has been the subject of controversy after the release of her latest song, “Akhiyaan De Kol,” from the film Do Patti. Moreover, the song is a remake of the iconic Pakistani folk song by legendary singer Reshma. Despite the backlash, the makers of “Do Patti” have defended the remake, claiming that it is a tribute to Reshma’s iconic song.
Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui recently voiced his strong disapproval of Bollywood’s T-Series for remaking the legendary Pakistani singer Reshma’s classic song, “Akhiyaan De Kol,” for the upcoming film Do Patti. The new Kriti Sanon version has stirred controversy online, drawing backlash from fans who believe the remake disrespects Reshma’s legacy.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Siddiqui expressed his disappointment over the new rendition. He remarked, “Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means tearing apart a classic by a legend. Please show some respect for Reshma Jee and the legacy she left behind. Her music deserves to be treated with the dignity it commands, not reduced to just another sordid ripoff,”
Not just him, but Pakistani actress Mishi Khan also gave a thumbs down to the remix version of Akhiyaan De Kol. “Ruined the song…shame on you,” she wrote. Fans of the original song voiced their frustration. Some accused Bollywood of frequently stealing Pakistani songs, while others lamented that it had ruined one of their favorite songs.
Legacy Of The Song
Reshma Jee is famous for her powerful and soulful voice. She is celebrated worldwide for timeless hits like “Dama Dam Mast Kalandar” and “Lambi Judai.” Moreover, her rendition of “Akhiyaan De Kol,” originally penned by Sehrai Gurdas Puri, holds a special place in the hearts of music lovers. Over the years, this song has been cherished worldwide. It also includes a notable version sung by Indian legend Lata Mangeshkar for the 1973 film Bobby.
Many fans have accused the new version of Do Patti, sung by Shilpa Rao, composed by Tanishk Bagchi, and written by Kausar Munir, of lacking the soul of Reshma’s original. They believe it has been turned into a commercial item number, losing its emotional depth.
Do Patti, which marks Kriti Sanon’s debut as a producer, will be available on Netflix from October 25, 2024. However, the controversy over the song continues to cast a shadow on the film’s release. Many are still questioning the necessity of remixing such a beloved classic.
