Belarusian President Arrives in Islamabad for Three-Day Visit

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a three-day state visit. Multiple agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, signaling strengthened collaboration. Security in Islamabad has been heightened due to opposition-led protests, with the Red Zone, sealed to protect key areas.

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a three-day state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The visit aims to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Belarus through high-level discussions and agreements.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly received President Lukashenko at Nur Khan Airbase. He was accompanied by senior officials including Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Information Minister Atta Tarar. Children presented bouquets to the Belarusian leader as part of the welcoming ceremony.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two leaders will hold extensive talks focusing on bilateral cooperation and potential partnerships in various fields. A series of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, underscoring the growing collaboration between the two nations.

Ahead of the president’s arrival, a high-level delegation of 68 members from Belarus landed in Islamabad on Sunday. The group includes Belarusian ministers for energy, justice, transport, natural resources, emergency situations, and the defense industry, as well as 43 prominent business figures.

Groundbreaking Visit

Earlier on Monday, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met his Belarusian counterpart Maxim Ryzhenkov. The two discussed bilateral and regional issues, reaffirming their commitment to fostering mutually beneficial relations. They expressed satisfaction with the progress in diplomatic exchanges and high-level visits between the two countries.

The talks also touched on global developments, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Both sides emphasized the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and coordinated efforts to address international challenges.

The visit comes as Islamabad faces heightened security measures due to ongoing protests led by the opposition. Authorities have sealed the Red Zone, home to key government offices and the Diplomatic Enclave. Interior Minister Naqvi assured that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of the capital’s residents and preserving its welcoming atmosphere for international guests.

President Lukashenko’s visit is expected to further strengthen Pakistan-Belarus relations, fostering partnerships in trade, energy, and regional cooperation.
