Onijah Robinson, the American woman who traveled to Pakistan to marry a 19-year-old man she met online, has agreed to return to the United States. This decision comes after a series of events that garnered significant media attention. Moreover, she cited a lack of funds as the reason for her change of heart.
After months of uncertainty, American woman Onijah Robinson has agreed to return to the United States. She arrived in Karachi in October 2024 to marry a Pakistani man, Nidal Ahmed Memon. However, she was allegedly abandoned after his family refused their marriage.
Love Story Turns into Struggle
Onijah met 19-year-old Nidal on social media and traveled to Pakistan on October 11. She hopes to start a new life with him. However, her plans fell apart when his family opposed their union. Despite being offered a return ticket and financial help by an NGO, she refused to leave and instead camped outside Nidal’s apartment.
American Woman Requests for Assistance
After months of staying in Karachi, Onijah has now expressed her willingness to return home. In addition, in a video obtained by Geo News, she requested help with travel expenses.
“I would like for you guys to book my ticket back to New York […] money is short right now, and I will appreciate it,” she said.
Son Claims She Has Mental Health Issues
In an unexpected twist, Onijah’s son, Jeremiah Robinson, released a video statement revealing that his mother suffers from bipolar disorder. In the video, with his face blurred, Jeremiah confirmed that Onijah gave birth to him in April 2008 at New York’s Queens Hospital Center.

He claimed that his mother had initially planned a short vacation to meet Nidal and his family. However, she later refused to return. He added that Nidal had even booked her a return ticket for January 15, but she declined to leave.
“My mother has a mental bipolar disorder, and she is not mentally sound,” Jeremiah stated. “I’m trying to help her come back to the US.”
Controversy and Public Reaction
The case has gained widespread attention, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding Onijah’s stay in Pakistan. Jeremiah also criticized the media for exposing his mother’s personal information and stated that she was never officially married to anyone.
Now, as she prepares to return home, questions remain about her well-being and what led to her prolonged stay in Pakistan.
