
PTCL Enhances Connectivity with Africa-1 Submarine Cable
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has successfully connected Pakistan to Africa-1 submarine cable, marking a significant advancement in the country’s digital and telecom infrastructure. This initiative strengthens international connectivity by integrating a high-capacity data transmission system with PTCL’s exchange in Karachi.
By joining Africa-1 Cable System Consortium, PTCL has expanded Pakistan’s access to global digital hubs. 10,000-kilometer-long cable system features cutting-edge digital technology and links Pakistan to key strategic locations, including:
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
- Egypt
- Sudan
- Algeria
- France
- Kenya
- Djibouti

Syed Muhammad Shoaib, PTCL’s Group Vice President for International Business, emphasized the project’s importance. “We are dedicated to closing the digital divide, driving innovation across multiple sectors, and strengthening Pakistan’s economy. Africa-1 cable system will play a crucial role in improving internet speed, reliability, and global connectivity,” he stated.
Africa-1 cable system is set to become operational by early 2026, delivering world-class internet services to businesses and consumers in Pakistan. This development aligns with Pakistan’s ‘Digital Vision 2030,’ positioning the country as a leader in digital transformation.
