Pakistan’s junior tennis team made history by winning the Davis Cup Juniors 2025. They defeated Indonesia 2-1 in a thrilling final held in Malaysia. The team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, displaying exceptional talent, determination, and teamwork.
With this win, Pakistan has secured a spot in the ITF Asia/Oceania Davis Cup Juniors Qualifying Event. The qualifying round will be held in Kazakhstan from May 19 to 24, 2025. The competition will bring together the top 16 teams from the region, all vying for a place in the World Group.
Pakistan’s victory was sealed in the decisive doubles match. The duo of Hamza Roman and Abu Bakar Talha held their nerve to defeat Indonesia’s Mangunsong Rafa Jeconia and Suryana Raphael Rio 7-6(0), 2-6, 10-7. Earlier in the final, Abu Bakar Talha gave Pakistan an early lead with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Suryana Raphael Rio. However, Indonesia’s Gunawan Joachim Mika then leveled the tie, overcoming Mikael Ali Baig 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Pakistan’s captain, Shehzad Khan, expressed his pride in the team. He said, “The boys played with remarkable dedication and never gave up. Their hard work has paid off, and this is a proud moment for Pakistan tennis.”
Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi congratulated the players and coaching staff on their achievement. He specifically praised Mikael Ali Baig, Abu Bakar Talha, and Hamza Roman, along with Shehzad Khan, for their unwavering commitment. He also pointed out Pakistan’s impressive rise in junior tennis, as the team finished 16th in 2023, 5th in 2024, and now claimed the championship in 2025.
Qureshi also acknowledged the contributions of ATP coach Robert Davis and trainer Eduardo Laloc, who conducted an intensive training camp in Islamabad earlier this year. He credited their expertise in preparing the players for the tournament.
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Yasir Pirzada was also appreciated for his role in supporting international coaching initiatives, which played a crucial part in Pakistan’s tennis development.
PTF Secretary General Colonel (Retd.) Ziauddin Tufail congratulated the players and their families, emphasizing that this achievement reflects the incredible talent within Pakistan’s junior tennis circuit and signals a bright future for the sport in the country.
