Pakistan has demanded a halt to the genocidal war in Gaza and implementation of the 15th January ceasefire agreement. Permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN Munir Akram told the 15-member Security Council in New York that Israel’s aggression, its attacks, and its slaughter of the Palestinians must stop.
Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s overnight airstrikes in Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of 400 Palestinians. On Tuesday, Pakistan urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to intervene in this genocidal war. Moreover, they must also enforce the January 15 ceasefire agreement to end the ongoing violence.
Speaking at an emergency UNSC session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, called for an immediate end to Israel’s attacks. “Israel’s aggression and its relentless assault on Palestinians must stop,” he said. The session was convened by Algeria and Somalia, with support from Pakistan and other members. It was originally aimed at discussing humanitarian aid and the blockade in Gaza.
Ambassador Akram described the situation as another tragic chapter in Gaza’s ongoing crisis. He highlighted that more than 50,000 people have lost their lives, with 150,000 injured—most of them women and children. Moreover, he pointed to attacks on hospitals, schools, and religious sites, stating that such actions violate international law and UN resolutions.
He warned that failure to address the crisis could set a dangerous precedent for global peace. “If justice is not served, the world may witness a decline into lawlessness, undermining the very principles that the UN was established to uphold,” he cautioned.
Pakistan Stands Firm
Pakistan also criticized Israel’s restriction of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including cutting off essential supplies such as water and electricity. Amnesty International has labeled these actions as war crimes, equating them to the collective punishment of civilians.
Ambassador Akram emphasized that the January 15 ceasefire must be fully implemented. This includes stopping Israeli attacks, allowing displaced Palestinians to return home, reopening border crossings, and ensuring unrestricted humanitarian assistance.
He further stressed that peace efforts should not be derailed by those who benefit from continued conflict. He called for a political solution that guarantees the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds al-Sharif as its capital.
Pakistan reaffirmed its stance that only a fair and lasting resolution can bring peace to the region. It urged the global community to take decisive action before more innocent lives are lost.
