Pakistan has officially assumed the presidency of Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is stepping into the leadership role.
The decision was made during a virtual meeting of the ACC Executive Committee. Naqvi succeeds Sri Lanka’s Shammi Silva and will now oversee efforts to strengthen cricket across Asia.
“I am deeply honored to take on this role,” Naqvi stated. “Asia is the heartbeat of world cricket, and I look forward to working with all member boards to expand the sport’s influence.”
Silva, the outgoing president, expressed confidence in Naqvi’s leadership. “It has been a privilege to serve, and I believe the council will continue to progress under his guidance.”
Naqvi was appointed PCB chairman in February last year for a three-year term. Apart from fulfilling the role of PCB chief, Naqvi is also the interior minister of Pakistan. It was also learnt that Naqvi made decisions to divide his duties with the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Waqar Younis.
What Is ACC
The ACC, established in the 1980s, consists of 30 member associations. The organization supports cricket development through major tournaments such as the Asia Cup, Under-19 Asia Cup, and Women’s Asia Cup. After being based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, it relocated to the UAE in 2019, near the International Cricket Council (ICC) office.
Naqvi has been leading PCB since February 2024 and also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister. Mr. Mohsin Naqvi has officially assumed charge as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). With a strong track record as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board since 2024, Naqvi’s elevation signals a renewed focus on unity, growth, and innovation within Asian cricket.
His appointment is set to shape the ACC’s strategic direction and drive transformative progress across member nations. Moreover, it reflects Pakistan’s growing role in shaping the future of cricket in the region.
