Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has urged Lahore Qalandars to give a young player a chance instead of continuing with David Wiese in the playing XI. He shared his views during show on Sunday.
Afridi said that captain Shaheen Afridi can take advice from other experienced players during the match, but the team should not include Wiese only for consultations. “Don’t include Wiese just to give suggestions,” Afridi said.
Afridi also expressed disappointment over Qalandars’ poor performance in their opening match of PSL Season 10 against Islamabad United. He blamed the team’s weak strategy and lack of spirit for the loss.
Speaking on the same TV show earlier on Saturday, Afridi said, “Stop using the excuse of not having the right combination. Take responsibility and play with a fighting mindset.”
He called on the senior players to step up and lead the team by example. While he appreciated the decision to give youngsters a chance, he criticized the management for changing the batting order of regular openers.
“Support young talent, but don’t disturb the batting order of your main players,” he added.
Afridi’s honest opinion came as fans also questioned the team’s strategy and performance. He emphasized that smart decisions and unity would help the Qalandars bounce back in the tournament.
He encouraged the team to stay focused and stick to a solid plan, especially when dealing with pressure. Afridi believes that giving chances to new players could bring fresh energy and help the team recover.
