RCB won by 8 wickets as they stay in Contention for the Playoffs Race. During an incredible partnership with RCB captain Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli scored his 6th century in IPL history and equaled Chris Gayle’s record of most hundreds.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) boosted their playoff hopes with an 8-wicket win over Sunrise Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday in IPL 2023. Apart from Bangalore strengthening their playoff chances, the game also witnessed two centuries. Heinrich Klaasen made 104 off 51 balls as SRH scored 186/5 batting first. In reply, Virat Kohli smashed 100 off 63 as RCB won with four balls to spare.
Virat Kohli smashed a blistering hundred off 61 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday to sum up the 187 run-chase. This century came after four years as the last time the batting legend scored a ton was in 2019. Team India’s and RCB’s former captain has been ending all the century droughts in the past one year as he first smashed his 71st international ton after 3 years and then he scored 4 more of them in Tests and ODIs.
Kohli is known for smashing one of the best cover drives in the world and the young cricketers learn this shot from him. In IPL 2016, Virat Kohli had hit a six-over extra cover while playing a cover drive that didn’t have a follow through and it looked like the batsman was looking to defend the ball but with such class, anything can be possible in the field.
When asked about this particular knock and the importance of it, Kohli said it was a special one considering the gravity of the game – RCB needed to win this one to keep their playoff hopes alive. “Quite special considering the magnitude of the game. Thought SRH got a very good score. Ball was gripping as well. We wanted a good solid start. Didn’t expect to be 172/0. But that’s how well Faf (du Plessis) and I have played this season. Faf’s been on a different level.”
