Explore the area on foot, starting at the Catedral Pramada de America, Fortaleza Ozama and Calle Las Damas. Entrance fees range from RD$60 to RD$100 for museums and historic properties.
Malecon Santo Domingo
The Malecon of Santo Domingo is a quaint neighborhood with new casinos, hotels, cafes and nightclubs, replacing the dilapidated Zona Colonial. Visitors can enjoy sightseeing, gambling, dancing and bachata dancing. However, Malecon Beach pollute with garbage and activities at night are easy to pickpocket.
Los Tres Ojos
Explore Santo Domingo’s serene Los Tres Ojos, a national park with three limestone caves, each with a lake. Visitors can explore the caves on foot or by boat (a US$0.55 fee applies). However, visitors avoid caves due to their compact size and the difficulty traversing the long entrance stairs. Visitors can plan their visit around opening or closing times to avoid overcrowding. Instructions are available for a nominal fee. The entrance fee is RD$100 (or US$2.21).
Catedral Pramada de America
The Catedral Pramada de América, also known as the Catedral Santa María La Menor, was the first church in the Americas. It has Gothic, Baroque and Plateresque architectural styles and holds Sunday afternoon mass. Admission is RD$60 for adults, but children can enter for free. The dress code is strict shorts, tank tops, skirts and knee-length skirts are not allowed.
