Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly awaiting the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, set to be hosted by India. However, this edition of the prestigious tournament is expected to kick off without the traditional fanfare of an opening ceremony. But why?
In an unexpected twist of events, recent reports from Indian media revealed that no formal opening ceremony was slated for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
According to a well-informed source disclosed that the organizers had never intended to arrange an opening ceremony for the prestigious event. The source emphasized, “Unlike the Indian Premier League, which commences in the evening, here the matches kick off in the afternoon.”
Earlier, it was reported that Bollywood and Tollywood stars namely Ranveer Singh, Arjit Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Varun Dhawan, Asha Bhosle, Shankar Mahadevan, and Shreya Ghoshal would perform at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
The report also noted that both the International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already conducted a noteworthy “Captains Day” affair at the Narendra Modi Stadium the previous Wednesday.
Captain’s Day
Meanwhile, a report indicated that another Captains Day event took place on October 4. During this former Indian and English players, Ravi Shastri and Eoin Morgan, engaged in discussions with all the team captains.

“When asked about the trend of hosting nations winning the last three World Cups, Indian captain Rohit Sharma took a pragmatic stance,” the report conveyed. “While not dwelling too much on historical patterns, he affirmed our commitment to this World Cup, promising an enjoyable tournament for fans. Stadiums are expected packed, reflecting the deep-rooted love for cricket in India.”
ICC’s tournament inaugural match is scheduled between England and New Zealand. Pakistan paly its first match tomorrow against the Netherlands.
Even though there won’t be a fancy opening ceremony. It means we can pay more attention to the exciting cricket games. ICC World Cup 2023 will still be an amazing event with the top teams trying to win. Cricket fans can expect two months of intense matches as teams compete for the important title in one-day cricket.
