From Karachi to Paris: The Sweet Success of Lals Chocolates

Pakistani chocolatier, Lals Chocolates, won the prestigious Pastry Discovery Gem Award at the La Liste Awards in Paris. This international recognition highlights the exceptional craftsmanship and innovative flavours that have made Lals Chocolates a standout in the culinary world.

The story of Lals Chocolates, a beloved dessert brand from Pakistan, is one of passion, innovation, and sweet success. Founded by Lal Majid, lovingly known as Lal Auntie, and her daughter, Madiha Sultan Tai, the CEO of Lals, this mother-daughter duo has transformed the desert landscape in Pakistan. Moreover, they introduced global flavours and high-quality chocolates to a market that traditionally favoured sweets like halwa and mithai.

Their hard work and dedication recently earned them the prestigious ‘Pastry Discovery Gem Award by La Liste, a renowned global guide that identifies and celebrates the world’s best culinary spots. Moreover, this recognition places Lals among the finest patisseries worldwide, highlighting their unique creations that blend traditional Pakistani flavours with modern dessert trends.

Lals’ journey began in 2006 in Karachi, where they opened Pakistan’s first chocolate shop in the upscale area of Zamzama. Over the years, they expanded their offerings to include pastries, gelato, and more, always focusing on maintaining the highest quality. Meanwhile, this dedication to excellence earned Lal Majid international recognition, including two “Best Sweets and Pastry Book” awards at the Gourmand Awards for her book, Deliciously Yours.

Reason Behind Award

Before heading to Paris for the award ceremony, Lal and Madiha crafted special chocolate bars infused with traditional Pakistani flavours like pink salt, ras malai, and almond milk, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of their homeland. At the La Liste Pastry Awards 2024, Lals was one of four international patisseries honoured in the Pastry Discovery Gem category, a testament to their innovative and high-quality creations.

Lals has also expanded beyond Pakistan, with their chocolates now available at Blomma in Dubai Mall, bringing a taste of Pakistan to the Middle East. Looking ahead, Madiha Tai plans to continue growing the brand through collaborations with local and international partners, aiming to reach even more dessert lovers worldwide.

The flagship Lals pâtisserie in Karachi’s Khayaban-e-Shahbaz area is a testament to their success. It offers a wide range of sweet and savoury delights, from classic chocolate cakes to innovative treats like honey baklava tart.
