Coldplay Is Retiring After 12th Album, Says Chris Martin

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has announced the band’s intention to retire after their 12th studio album. While the news may shock fans, Martin clarified that the band won’t be disappearing altogether. Conversely, they will pay more attention to live performances and collaborations.

British band Coldplay has announced that they will stop recording new music after their 12th studio album. Frontman Chris Martin shared the news during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music. He revealed that the retirement decision was inspired by some of their greatest musical influences.

“We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that’s real,” Martin stated. He humorously added, “Less is more, and for some of our critics, even less would be even more!”. Martin explained that limiting their discography would ensure high-quality output, drawing comparisons to legendary artists like The Beatles and Bob Marley, who also capped their releases.

The band, formed in 1996, is currently promoting its 10th album Moon Music, set to release on October 4, 2024. Their 12th and final album is expected in 2025, marking the end of an era for one of the world’s most iconic bands. However, Coldplay isn’t disappearing altogether. While they will no longer release new music, Martin confirmed that they will continue to tour. He also promises fans the same high-energy live performances the band is known for.

End Of An Era

Coldplay’s decision may be bittersweet for fans, but their focus on touring means they will continue to deliver their immersive and unforgettable concerts. Known for hits like “Yellow,” “Fix You,” and “Viva la Vida,” the band’s influence on the music industry is undeniable. Their live performances, featuring stunning visuals and captivating stage designs, have become legendary over the years.

Meanwhile, Coldplay concert will take place next year on January 18, 19 and 21 in Mumbai. The British band consists of Chris Martin (vocalist and pianist), Jonny Buckland (guitarist), Guy Berryman (bassist), and Will Champion (drummer and percussionist), with Phil Harvey as their manager. The band is returning to India after 8 years. Their last performance in India was at the Global Citizen Festival in 2016.

As Coldplay prepares for this next chapter, fans eagerly anticipate both their final album and the unforgettable concerts that will follow. Even without new music, Coldplay’s legacy will continue to shine through its electrifying shows and timeless hits.
