Imran Khan Granted Bail in Toshakhana 2 Case

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to PTI founder Imran Khan in the Toshakhana 2 case. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb approved the bail, requiring Imran Khan to submit bonds worth Rs1 million and appear in the trial court. The court emphasized that failing to cooperate during the trial could result in the withdrawal of bail.

Defense lawyer Salman Safdar argued that multiple agencies, including the NAB, FIA, Police, and Election Commission, have pursued actions related to the Toshakhana case, raising concerns of procedural redundancy. He also highlighted a significant delay of 3.5 years in filing the case. The FIA prosecutor stated that further details regarding the jewelry valuation and receipts would be presented during the trial.

Court’s Observations and Further Steps

The court humorously questioned why no action had been taken against Customs officers who allegedly miscalculated the jewelry’s price. While the FIA prosecutor confirmed negligence, it was deemed insufficient to constitute criminal misconduct.

Despite the bail approval, Imran Khan’s release from Adiala Jail faces delays due to pending bail bond submissions in other cases. Additionally, the court’s written order stressed that Imran Khan must attend all trial court hearings and avoid misusing his bail privilege. If any unfair advantage is taken, the prosecution may seek to revoke the bail.

Bushra Bibi’s Status

Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife and co-accused in the Toshakhana 2 case, was released from Adiala Jail in October after securing interim bail. Her guarantor submitted bail bonds worth Rs1 million, allowing her to return to Bani Gala. Her legal team expressed hope that no further arrests would follow.
