Paris Tops 100 City Destinations for 2024 List

Euromonitor International released its Top 100 City Destinations for 2024. This ranking considers various factors, such as culture, food, nightlife, and safety. Paris is at the top of the list for its beautiful sights, yummy food, and fun nightlife. Other awesome cities like Madrid, Tokyo, Rome, and Milan also made the top five.

Paris has retained its title as the world’s most attractive city for the fourth consecutive year, according to the 2024 Top 100 City Destinations Index by Euromonitor International. With 70 million visitors in 2024, Paris has earned high marks for its tourism, infrastructure, sustainability, and economic performance, making it the number one destination globally.

The French capital’s continued success is highlighted by its hosting of major events like the 2024 Olympics and the reopening of the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral. It remains a global leader in tourism, supported by its robust infrastructure and policies aimed at promoting sustainable travel.

Following Paris, Madrid claimed second place, benefiting from its cultural attractions, including the UNESCO-listed Retiro Park, and improving tourism policies. Tokyo ranked third, marking a significant rise in international arrivals as Japan’s tourism scene rebounds, with nearly 13 million visitors this year.

Europe dominated the rankings, with Rome, Milan, and Amsterdam rounding out the top 10. Rome’s status as the “Eternal City” and Milan’s global influence in fashion and business helped both cities secure spots in the top five. Barcelona, despite its challenges with overtourism, secured 10th place, showing its lasting appeal to travelers.

London, which held the 10th spot in 2023, has dropped to 13th place this year. Although London continues to excel in tourism infrastructure, it lags behind other cities in areas like sustainability and health and safety, preventing it from reaching the top 10. The UK capital also faced challenges related to over-tourism, which affected its overall ranking.

Other notable cities in the top 10 include Sydney and Singapore, both popular destinations in the Asia-Pacific region. Sydney’s vibrant culture and landmarks like Bondi Beach attracted millions, while Singapore’s stunning Gardens by the Bay remained a key draw for tourists.

Meanwhile, Bangkok topped the list for international arrivals, with 32 million visitors in 2024, surpassing other major cities. This surge in tourism highlights a global rebound in travel, with many cities adopting measures to combat over-tourism, such as increased taxes and regulated entry hours.
