Suparco predicts that Eid ul-Fitr is likely to be observed on March 31, 2025, in Pakistan while Ramadan will fall on March 2nd. However, the final decision rests with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which follows traditional moon sighting methods.
The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted the expected dates for Ramazan and Eid ul-Fitr in Pakistan. Based on astronomical calculations, the first fast of Ramazan is likely to be observed on March 2, 2025, while Eid ul-Fitr may fall on March 31, 2025.
SUPARCO and Ramazan Moon Sighting Prediction
According to SUPARCO, the new moon will be born on February 28, 2025, at 5:45 AM (Pakistan time). However, due to its low altitude of 5 degrees and an angular distance of 7 degrees from the sun, the crescent will be difficult to see on the same evening. Since the moon’s age at sunset will be only 12 hours, its visibility in Pakistan is extremely low.
As a result, the month of Sha’ban is expected to complete 30 days, and Ramazan is likely to begin on March 2. In Saudi Arabia, where the moon may be sighted earlier due to atmospheric conditions, Ramazan could start on March 1.

Eid ul-Fitr 2025 Forecast
SUPARCO’s analysis indicates that the Shawwal moon is expected to be visible on March 30, 2025. If confirmed, Eid ul-Fitr will likely be celebrated in Pakistan on March 31. However, the final decision rests with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which follows traditional moon sighting methods.
Global Ramazan Start Dates
- Saudi Arabia & Gulf Countries: Moon sighting on February 28; Ramazan may begin on March 1.
- Pakistan & India: Moon sighting expected on March 1; Ramazan may begin on March 2.
- Europe & USA: Some communities follow Saudi Arabia’s announcement, while others rely on local sightings.
Religious and Scientific Importance
Ramazan is a sacred month for Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting, prayers, and charity. While traditional moon sighting is preferred, modern technology and astronomical data assist in predictions. The final confirmation in Pakistan will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
