The University of Punjab in Lahore has become 140 years old recently. Faculty, Staff, and even students celebrated the 140th founding day of the university. The University of Punjab was established on October 14, 1882. It is the oldest teaching and educational institute in the whole sub-continent. Punjab university has the biggest number of alumni in Pakistan. These alumni are spread all over the world and contribute hugely to their society. On this auspicious occasion for the institute, various faculty members, head of departments, staff members, and students expressed their love for their university.
This was not just an ordinary day for the institute. Vice-chancellor Niaz Ahmad Akhtar called a meeting in his office for the celebration with all the heads of departments. During the meeting, the vice chancellor emphasized the importance of improving the quality of education. He said that it is important that the university keeps on providing the latest and up-to-date courses and curriculum to their students. Moreover, the vice chancellor and head of departments also agreed on improving the international ranking of the university.
In 2018, University of The Punjab had limited induction capacity. It only had 13 faculties, 10 constituent colleges, and 73 departments. However, this was not enough for current educational needs. Vice-chancellor Niaz Ahmad has a 50-year vision plan. He aims to restructure the whole institute in the next 50 years. As a result, he announced that the university shall increase the faculties from 13 to 19 and the departments from 73 to 150.

Moreover, vice chancellor advised the faculty members to promote research culture. Faculty members informed the vice chancellor that the steps are underway. They said that the task of improving the quality of education within the university is already making progress. This is the reason why Punjab University’s rankings have significantly improved over the past few years. Punjab University was previously among the top 78 percent of universities in the world. Whereas, now the university stands among the top 57 percent of universities around the world.
