Third Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan in a Week
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan, killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens more. The third earthquake struck in the province of Herat, near the border with Iran. The United States Geological Survey says that the earthquake was the strongest to hit Afghanistan in decades.
A third earthquake has shaken western Afghanistan, just days after two powerful tremors caused over 1,000 casualties in the region.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), this latest quake was 6.3 and occurred near the city of Herat. Moreover, it originated 6.3 kilometers (four miles) beneath the surface.
